Halloween 2025: Day 7
Cautionary Tail, Fat Orange Cat Brew Co.
Pumpkin ale. Pretty all right; tastes like a brown ale with maybe a bit of spice. Very autumnal.
Hellraiser: Deader
“It’s mine now. It belongs to me.”
“Well, that’s where you’re wrong. Painfully wrong. We belong to it.”
Bad, and also boring. Same director as the last film, but shot in eastern Europe so he was able to put a lot of cheap nudity in as set dressing. I did appreciate that we got full frontal dong—and a surprise Marc Warren—but it’s very clearly an unrelated script reworked to add a veneer of Cenobite, and the two tastes do not go great together.
Hellraiser: Hellworld
“Like a bad horror movie, isn’t it?”
This might be the lowered expectations speaking (as the third installment directed by Rick Bota we were braced for the worst) but I kind of liked this film. It’s a fairly conventional slasher film with a light sprinkling of Hellraiser aesthetics, but Lance Henriksen, Katheryn Winnick, and Henry Cavill all turn in credible performances. The pacing is comparatively decent, the editing less frenetic, and you barely notice the gratuitous sleaze.
