Halloween 2023: Day 27

Friday the 13th Part 2

Less interesting than the first one, and the effects are worse as well.

Blood From the Mummy’s Tomb

The Hammer mummy movies don’t really form a series and (apart from the first one) have no ties to the Universal movies, so I skipped to the intriguing final entry. Based on Bram Stoker’s novel The Jewel of the Seven Stars, a troubled production where the director died five weeks into the six week shoot led to an occasionally choppy final product. Despite those woes it’s actually a fairly engaging and thought-provoking film filled with gothic chills, thrills, and kills. (Also a weird number of shots of Valerie Leon’s bare feet.) The only major knock against it is that Tera is not actually a mummy.
