Halloween 2023: Day 17

The Mummy (1932)

Despite my love for The Mummy (1999), I had never seen the Universal original starring Boris Karloff. Karloff’s performance is the draw in what is a fairly rote vampire movie.

The Mummy (1959)

This I wasn’t even really aware of before tonight: a Hammer reboot of the series, starring Peter Cushing as the archaeologist and Christopher Lee as the mummy. It’s hard to even say the mummy did anything wrong here; he’s just killing the annoying Englishmen who first desecrated a grave and then did their best to destroy any archaeological value of the desecration by setting off explosives inside it.

It’s a little weird that the main god of the film is Karnak, which is the location of a famous temple not the name of a god.
