I haven’t seen any other Halloween films, so I don’t know how Rob Zombie’s take compares to the rest. The incredibly extended prologue seems like it’s trying to set up a theme of generational trauma, but in the end just comes off as an excuse to up the running time and body count (and I mean both dead bodies and naked bodies, plus the occasional naked dead body.) Once we get into the actual meat of the film we’ve spent so much time with Michael that Laurie et al. barely have time to be introduced before they start dropping like flies. Overall it’s filthy, vulgar, and suspenseful, so pretty much what you would expect from Mr. Zombie.
