I used to think I was prone to go heavy on the absinthe in a Corpse Reviver No. 2, then I met this variation from Mayur Subbarao. It jumps it up to a full-on equal parts participant, and it almost works. A lot depends on the exact ingredients you choose; I used the fairly assertive Absinthe Safran from Awen Nature and it was threatening to take over the drink, but I could see a lighter absinthe working fine at this ratio. It is exhibiting a little of the harsh clashing that I don’t like in a Death in the Afternoon, so I’ll probably reduce the absinthe a little next time.

• 1 part absinthe
• 1 part elderflower liqueur
• 1 part Lillet Blanc
• 1 part lemon juice
• 1 dash gin
