My Year in Books: 2019
Click here for the Goodreads summary
In 2019 I read 100,032 pages across 352 books; the marked increase over last year’s book total was mainly due to a higher number of comics/manga.
I gave eight books five-star ratings, four of which were re-reads. The others were:
Bloody Rose by Nicholas Eames (The Band #2)
Eames’s second novel returns to the generic-ish fantasy RPG setting of Kings of the Wyld, where monster-killing adventurers are treated like rock stars and act like rock stars and die like rock stars.
This is a book about family, monsters, “monsters” who are family, family who are monsters, and love.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer #1 by by Jordie Bellaire, Dan Mora, and Raul Angulo
A reimagining of the classic television series, with more queerness, witchiness, and social awareness than ever.
Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers (Wayfarers #3)
Still one of my favourite SF series.

Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire (Wayward Children #1)
Sometimes children fall into a fantastic land full of adventure.
Sometimes they fall back out again.
Both can be traumatic.
