Scream 7

“Nobody knows the guy? Okay, that’s weird.”

This is the first Scream that is genuinely in contention to beat out Scream 3 as the worst. At least that had Carrie Fisher. It’s hard to find anything to say about this movie because it never tried to say anything apart from “We got Neve Campbell and Matthew Lillard back this time, please love us.”

Most of the action scenes are atrociously dark, which might be gritty and realistic but it’s boring when you can’t see what is happening.

The particular way in which Sidney failed as a mother doesn’t really fit her established character, and seems unrealistic for anyone with her particular type of celebrity. The movie also fails to do anything interesting with that, like have Jessica attempt to fill the gap.

It’s also incredibly tainted by the behind-the-scenes drama; Spyglass firing Melissa Barrera for opposing the Palestinian genocide was bad, actually. It’s tempting to draw a direct line from that to the bland nothingness that is the final movie.
