Halloween 2024: Day 9
Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter
“Some pack of patootsies, huh?”
I thought this was fine. Some of the characters were annoying and there’s no departure from the formula, but it was fun to see Crispin Glover pop up unexpectedly. The end scene’s a bit of a sour note, implying that while Jason is dead, our autism-coded hero Tommy resembles him mentally as well as physically.
Friday the 13th: A New Beginning
“You’ve been out in the sun too long. Jason Voorhees is dead! His body was cremated. He’s nothing but a handful of ash.”
This one, on the other hand, was boring. It’s coming apart at the seams with the number of deaths and nude scenes they decided to squeeze in, and there’s no time to breathe or get attached to any of the characters.
They did at least avoid the trite and offensive “Tommy is the killer now because trauma turns people evil” twist…oh, wait, no.
