Halloween 2024: The Pre-Sequel

While Halloween doesn’t start until October 1st this year, we may have already watched one or two things.

Silent Hill

I kind of like this film.

Silent Hill: Revelation

I had never seen the second film. It’s bad.

Ghosts of Mars

This film is deliberately stupid, so it would be silly to criticize it for that. I do wish Jason Statham’s character had a character trait other than horny.

Resident Evil

I still love this film.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse

Made somewhat tolerable by the presence of Oded Fehr, Jared Harris, and Zack Ward. Someone needs to take away the director’s slow-motion dutch angle button.

Resident Evil: Extinction

This is where the plot seriously goes off the rails. Milla Jovovich clones all over the place.

The Blob (1958)

Steve McQueen’s first starring role. It’s boring, badly acted, and boring.

Death Becomes Her

Entertainingly camp.

Pharaoh’s Curse

Real bad, but not in an entertaining way.

Ginger Snaps

Excellent.

Resident Evil: Afterlife

Some kind of cool action sequences, but a pathetic attempt to inject peril by removing Alice’s powers. This is also the first of the movies shot and released in 3D, making for a rousing game of “spot the terrible cinematography designed to look cool in 3D.”

Resident Evil: Retribution

The worst of the series. Not only was it entirely setup for the final film, a lot of it doesn’t get a payoff in the final film.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

A slight improvement. There’s something that could be described as an arc for one character, at least.

Silent Hill (again)

C missed it the first time, and very much wanted to see it.
