Halloween: Day 29

Scream

The original and still the best. A deft and clever blend of terror and satire.

Scream 2

Sequels are hard, but 2 does a decent job of upping the stakes and re-traumatising the survivors of the first film.

Scream 3

Scream 3 is played by Mx. Not Appearing In This Marathon, because of time constraints and just not being good enough. We did quickly skim the plot synopsis.

Scream 4

Scre-four-em is the second-best Scream movie. It is just the right amount of meta and (while it repeats a mistake Scream 2 made and Scream 3 paid for) it does the best job of replicating what made the original movie special while also doing something new.

Croak by Gina Damico (Croak #1)

YA novel about a girl who becomes a Grim Reaper, and is also special. Commits the writing sin of having a highly efficient bureaucracy that nevertheless throws the protagonist directly into ten-hour work days without explaining any of the rules, then threatens her with memory erasure or death if she breaks a rule.
